Video Art Project: Thriving (three parts; 9:23 minutes)
Section 1. ========= Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God. Section 2. ========= Entering into His rest Section 3. ========== Trusting in Him: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying & Love God Notes ===== Section One: Here, I acknowledge that issues of faith and spirituality covered in this project is inherently limited and seemingly contradictory to the very nature of the medium; that is, I am using a visual medium in attempt to describe things that are invisible, of faith and spiritual matters. This section's purpose exposes our blindness to the light and shows that our sin and depravity blinds us from the very Person which the project is about. The key question is are you "ready"? (To see God) Section Two: We grow up in 24/7 stores where it never sleeps. There is a city nicknamed "the City that never sleeps". We have become engaged in busy lifestyles, as depicted in this section with the "California Roll" (when a car slows to a stop sign but never fully stops). Yes, we rest and take breaks from time to time (less often nowadays) but do we really "stop and smell the roses" and worship God as we ought to? The title is a reference to entering the Rest that comes from God, as described in the book of Hebrews. Section Three: So far, the way to thrive comes from us being ready to see and hear God, to find our rest in God. The final section shows the intertwining of faith and narratives, simple parables. One should note that this section begins like a Powerpoint presentation, like one you'd receive in an email, but then it develops into a narrative. It may seem naïve and childish to believe such a tale, yet that is the point. We must come with humility and dependence. We must come by faith. This three part project was made during my senior year of UC Riverside and describes what I was learning in Hebrews and Luke. For this project I received a B. My professor was a Lesbian.
